Congratulations District 5 - Distinguished District 2006-2007!

Awards & Installation Breakfast
On Saturday, August 11th, District 5 held its annual Awards & Installation Breakfast. Joyce Persichilli, standing in for our Immediate Past District Governor, Cindy Scott (who was in New York and couldn't attend in person, but was there in spirit), recognized the outgoing District team, Division & Area Governors, honored and rewarded all the Distinguished, Select Distinguished and President's Distinguished Clubs (with TI gift certificates ranging from $20 to $50 - see below), as well as bestowing 5 special District Governor SuperStar Awards, and the eagerly anticipated Area Governor, Division Governor and Toastmaster of the Year awards. Following the recognition, Region II International Director majority candidate, Richard Synder, DTM, PDG, installed the incoming team - Area and Division Governors; Lt. Governor Marketing, Mark Kramer, ATMG; Lt. Governor Education & Training, Emily Corcoran, DTM; and District Governor, Gail E. Lover, DTM.

Cindy Scott's theme was
"Building Strong Speakers & Leaders Thru Teamwork" - and teamwork was evident everywhere we looked this past year. Teamwork is what allowed so many members to earn individual educational and leadership goals. Teamwork is what helped 50 clubs be Distinguished or Better. Teamwork is what drove 20 of the 28 Areas to be Distinguished or Better. Teamwork is how EVERY Division was Distinguished or Better. And finally, ALL the members' efforts in Building Strong Speakers & Leaders Thru Teamwork is what led the District to Distinguished Status for the second year in a row!

Congratulations Award Recipients

Area Governor of the Year:

This person was a stand out from the very first club officer training where he had all his club presidents attend and then held an Area Council meeting afterwards. His leadership and communication skills were outstanding all year long. He uplifted and motivated his clubs, volunteered as a trainer and workshop presenter, and led his Area to President's Distinguished with ALL clubs Distinguished or Better.
Steve Sherrod, DTM, Area 18 Governor
President's Distinguished Area

Division Governor of the Year:
This Toastmaster did so much more, above and beyond the basic Division governor job description, filling in for an Area Governor who resigned, volunteering at every other Division's contests, holding two successful Speak-a-thon's, and lending a helping hand whenever asked. Hers is the only Division who was President's Distinguished.
Emily Corcoran, DTM, Eastern Division Governor
President's Distinguished Division

Toastmaster of the Year:
The Toastmaster of the Year award recognizes one Toastmaster (who is not a District Officer) whose dedication, commitment, and efforts significantly contributed towards achieving the district mission. There was one person who was there at every contest, who helped train, conducted workshops, served as a Committee Chair, served as a club officer inspiring new members, coordinated the Spring Conference Friday night event, and for her High Performance Leadership project, helped other Toastmasters find a HPL project of their own. She was present every day of the Region II Conference coordinating the raffle.
Gloria James, ATMS
