Many thanks and kudos to the dozens of people who volunteered their time and wonderful talents to make our Spring
Conference celebrating World Champions a HUGE success & Simply Amazing!
On Friday evening, Gloria James, Contest Chair & Darcy Konold, Event Chair, along with their posse, put on
quite a show - from the foot-tapping music of Tom Fincher & his band of Banjo Bums to the chili cookoff and
pie baking contest. The 2003 World Champion of Public Speaking, Jim Key, kept us laughing with "But It Wasn't
Funny Back Then;" and the evening culminated with the 5 Evaluation Contest finalists vying for the District
Evaluation Champion's title. Very,
very special thanks to Sea World for donating the location at the Hubbs Sea World Institute.
Congratulations to ALL the Evaluation

Following the Business meeting, Jim Key showed us again why he is a World Champion. He really
"Hit the Mark" in his "Quest for Excellence" presenatation. His glorious stories, filled with
self-deprecating humor and valuable life lessons, set the tone for an immensely enjoyable day.
At lunch we were mesmerized by C&L Award winner John Assaraf's presence & Law of Attraction message. Following
John, we honored, welcomed & hugged District 5's newest DTMs: Steve Sherrod, Scott Sabul, Jim Tucker, Ralph
Giove, Debra Simpson, Zena Babao, Brenda Smull & Stanley Dombrowski.
After lunch, from Region II International Director, Lauren Kelly, we learned how to better incorporate the new
CL manual into our clubs (and handed out 31 to members who pledged to use them & complete them by next year's
conference).
All this set the stage for our International Speech Contest. Jim Tucker (a three-time finalist at the International
Convention) was our Contest Toastmaster.
Congratulations to ALL the participants for inspiring us and touching our hearts: Donald Booth
- Northern; Elisa Castaneda - Southern; Norm Nomura
- Central; Mike Shelton - Eastern; and Jimmy Thai
- Western
